Values-Driven Job Search
In this interactive workshop, you will explore your strengths, values and preferences, and create a framework to guide your job search and the development of your application materials. Workshop led by the Office of Career and Life Design.
Telling Your Research Story
Learn how to tell compelling research stories! In this workshop, you’ll learn tools and frameworks for telling good stories about your research in networking conversations, application documents, interviews and more. This workshop uses the pd|hubstorytelling model. Workshop led by the Office of Career and Life Design.
Research Communication Breakouts
Choose one of two research communication deep dives.
Networking: In this interactive workshop, you will learn how to network while you are on the academic job market. We will provide advice and strategies for how to best communicate with other scholars at conferences and in other professional settings.
Interviewing: Learn how to talk about your current and future research projects in first and second interviews. You’ll come away with tips and strategies for how to best communicate your unique value and fit throughout the interview process.
Networking Lunch
Practice talking about your research interests and career goals with fellow students and postdocs.
Demystifying Job Postings
Understand the art of the job post! In this workshop, you’ll learn how to break down academic job postings in a way that will help you decide what roles to apply for, understand what institutions are looking for and build targeted, relevant applications. Application Materials Breakout Rooms
Chose two of three breakout sessions on application materials. Each session will be interactive and last 45 minutes.
Strengthening your CV: Refine your CV to highlight your research, teaching and academic achievements effectively. This session provides essential tips and insights to enhance your CV's impact, helping you stand out in the competitive academic job market. Workshop led by the Office of Career and Life Design.
Drafting Teaching Statements: Learn the characteristics of an effective teaching statement —including what search committees look for —and begin drafting/refining your statement to vibrantly convey your teaching values and the instructional choices you make to help students achieve learning goals. Workshop led by the Center for Teaching and Learning.
Academic Cover Letter Workshop: This guided writing workshop will give attendees practice infusing their application materials with their own writing style. Attendees will leave with an outline and draft for their academic cover letter and ideas for how to help them stand out. Workshop led by the University Writing Center.
Planning Your Academic Job Search Strategy
This interactive workshop will help you craft a detailed plan for your academic job search and introduce you to the events and resources that can support you in your academic job search. You will leave with goals, a clear plan and tools to track applications, interviews and offers. Workshop led by the Office of Career and Life Design.
