Associate Dean - Funding and Policy Emphasis

Description

The Graduate School invites applications for the position of Associate Dean to provide strategic leadership in enhancing graduate education with a focus on the structures that are critical to the future success of our graduate programs and graduate students, including policies and funding. This position reports to and works closely with the Dean in advancing the success of graduate students at The University of Texas at Austin. The individual in this role will work closely with the Dean of the Graduate School and graduate education leaders in the CSUs to maximize the positive impact of Graduate School fellowships and awards. They will also partner with stakeholders to assess graduate education policies and processes. Additional opportunities exist to design projects and spearhead initiatives aimed at promoting graduate student success. The Associate Dean will play a leadership role in supporting excellence and innovation in graduate education.

Responsibilities


Thought Leadership

  • Serve as a collaborative member of a leadership team dedicated to supporting graduate student success broadly across the University.
  • Work closely with the Dean, Graduate School leadership team, and external stakeholders to develop and implement strategic goals for the Graduate School and graduate education at the University.
  • Represent the Graduate School on University committees serving as an advocate for graduate education.
  • Engage with the state, national, and international graduate education community to stay abreast of current trends, bring new ideas to campus, and develop opportunities for collaboration.

Graduate Student Funding

  • Lead the Graduate School fellowships and awards programs to include processes for selection of graduate student fellows and awards programs as well as the distribution of funds to CSUs for awards within units.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of the Graduate School funding processes to ensure that funds continue to be awarded equitably and are meeting the needs of students and programs.
  • Serve as the point of contact for and promote external fellowship opportunities.
  • Take a leadership role in assessing the many aspects of graduate student academic employment appointments.
  • Manage and monitor graduate student funding.

Policies and Procedures

  • Collaborate with graduate programs, the Graduate Assembly, and other offices to assess existing graduate education policies and practices that should be reviewed, updated, revised with a focus on the structure of graduate education.
  • Identify areas where new policies and practices are needed. Work with stakeholders to co-develop and implement solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with Graduate Council policies and relevant university regulations.

Data Analysis and Reporting

  • Gather and analyze data as needed related to graduate student funding, outcomes and satisfaction.
  • Use data-driven insights to enhance student success.

Other duties as needed.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold the rank of tenured full professor at The University of Texas at Austin. Previous administrative experience working with graduate programs, graduate students, or the Graduate Assembly or similar is preferred. Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to think broadly across academic disciplines are essential.

This position is a 12-month appointment at either a 50% or 75% A&P position for the Fall and Spring terms with a full-time appointment for the summer term.

Associate Dean - Graduate Student Affairs Emphasis

Description

The Graduate School invites applications for the position of Associate Dean with a focus on graduate student affairs. This position reports to and works closely with the Dean and is dedicated to advancing the academic success and well-being of the graduate student community at The University of Texas at Austin. This Associate Dean will work closely with the Graduate School’s student services team to help stakeholders navigate graduate education policies. They will assist students, faculty, and programs in addressing issues that arise over the course of a student’s journey at the University. The individual in this role will also collaborate with the Graduate School’s Office of Career and Life Design to coordinate and develop resources to promote graduate student success in and out of the classroom. Additional opportunities exist to design projects and spearhead initiatives aimed at promoting student success and well-being across the university. The Associate Dean plays a leadership role in supporting excellence and innovation in graduate education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and support to graduate students, addressing academic and personal challenges.
  • Assist graduate program leaders and others in addressing and resolving conflicts involving graduate students.
  • Liaise with various support services, such as counseling, advising, and disability services to ensure student needs are met.
  • Oversee the resolution of grievances.
  • Serve as a liaison between graduate student groups and the Graduate School.

Policy and Procedures

  • Co-develop, revise, and implement policies related to the graduate student experience.
  • Contribute to the development of University-wide policies and initiatives impacting graduate students.
  • Serve as a resource for graduate programs on academic policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate extensively with other units within the Graduate School and across the University on issues impacting the student experience. 
  • Ensure compliance with Graduate Council policies and relevant university regulations.
