Cooperative Arrangements with Other Texas Institutions

A cooperative arrangement between The University of Texas System and The Texas A&M University System allows a graduate student at one institution to use unique facilities or courses at the other institution with a minimum of paperwork. A similar arrangement exists among component institutions of The University of Texas System.

The graduate student registers and pays fees at the home institution and may retain any fellowship or financial assistance awarded by it. Space must be readily available, the instructor or laboratory director of the proposed work must consent to the arrangement, and the graduate dean of each institution must approve the cooperation.

Application & Reporting Form

Cooperative/Consortium Program for Graduate Students Application and Reporting form

To take advantage of the cooperative consortium program, complete the Cooperative/Consortium Program for Graduate Students Application and Reporting form. Parts I-III of the application and reporting form must be completed well in advance of the time that a student expects to enroll in courses at a member institution of the cooperative program.

Prior to attending the first day of class, participating students are responsible for:

1. Submitting an original application and reporting form, complete with required signatures, to the graduate dean’s office at the host institution; and

2. Providing a copy of the same to the graduate dean's office at their home institution.

In Absentia Registration

Students participating in the cooperative consortium program do not qualify for in absentia registration. When registration and payment at the home institution has been confirmed, the student will be given the final approval of the graduate dean of the host institution.

Upon completion of a semester or summer term, the student is responsible for asking the instructor(s) to send the student’s grade to the graduate dean of the host institution, who will enter the grade(s) on the original copy of a student’s application and reporting form, endorse the document, and return it to the graduate dean of the home institution.

Course Withdrawal

If it becomes necessary for a student to withdraw from a course, they must first get the approval of the graduate dean of the host institution, followed by the approval of the graduate dean of the home institution. If either dean fails to approve the student’s request to withdraw, the student is obliged to continue with the course. Failure to continue will automatically result in a grade of F or U, whichever is applicable.

When the graduate dean of the host institution approves a student’s request to withdraw from a course, they will enter the appropriate grade on the original copy of the application and reporting form in accordance with the rules and regulations of the host institution governing student withdrawal from courses, then return the endorsed document to the graduate dean of the home institution for action.

The dean of the home institution will at all times keep the dean of the host institution apprised of final actions they may take in connection with any request of a student to withdraw from a course being taken at the host institution.
