Graduate students may apply for one of two types of externally funded fellowships: those administered at least in part by the Graduate School and those that are wholly extramural - meaning students should apply directly.

NSF Graduate Research Fellowships
National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program
The National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program offers five-year graduate fellowships (including three years of full stipend support) for students in science and engineering fields.
Fellowships are intended for students who have completed no more than 12 months of full-time graduate study. Committees look for strong grade-point average and GRE scores. About 1,000 awards are offered nationwide.
Eligibility is limited to U.S. citizens or nationals studying mathematical, physical, biological, engineering, or social sciences, including the history and philosophy of science.
- Application Deadline: Variable dependent on proposed field of study.
- Stipend: $37,000 plus tuition and fees, renewable for as many as three years.

ConTex-CONACYT Doctoral Fellowships
Doctoral students from Mexico may receive up to five years of financial support that will include tuition, a monthly stipend and support for health insurance.
