Whether in business, academia, or non-profits, our greatest leaders are our greatest mentors. In order for leaders and organizations to realize their full potential while optimizing human capital in the workplace and academia, they must understand the nuances of mindful, informed mentoring. This talk will focus on mentoring and leading diverse populations. It is not enough to help underrepresented minorities navigate power structures and communicate more optimally with their counterparts in the majority. The majority must be given tools necessary to bring out the best in all of their diverse colleagues and employees. Specifically, this talk will address the three pillars of mentoring: communicating honestly with oneself, communicating effectively with others, and understanding the cycle of failure/success.
