Welcome to The University of Texas at Austin! To help you make a smooth transition to being a graduate student here, we're providing you with several action steps and links to important campus resources.

Pre-Arrival Checklist

Get ready for classes by completing these steps. Take note—more than a few of them are required to access university technology. Please check with your Graduate Coordinator to see if your department requires anything additional.

Set up Duo Authentication

Setting up DUO

In an effort to increase security, multi-factor authentication (Duo) will be required to access most online services that require a UT EID login.

  1. Once downloaded, click on link above.
  2. Log in using your UT EID and password.
  3. Follow the instructions to register your device.
  4. Download the Duo Mobile app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store to your device.
  5. When asked to pair your device using the Duo Mobile app, you can use either a QR code or code, both are provided during the registration process.

After DUO is set up, you will have access to Zoom as well as other UT online services.

Duo Help from ITS

You can learn more about how to set up DUO here or visit the IT@UT website for more information.

Set Up UTexas Zoom Account

Download Zoom

You will need an official UTexas Zoom account. Follow the link above to set up Zoom on your mobile device or computer.

Some students experience trouble when trying to create their UTZoom account. If you have a personal account in Zoom, it automatically logs you into your personal account. If you encounter this, then you will need to click on your profile in Zoom, scroll down under the "Options" and select "Switch Account" to successfully set your UTZoom.

Official Student Email

Students have been assigned an official UT Austin email address:[eid]@my.utexas.edu. This Microsoft-based email will serve as a student’s primary channel for all university-related correspondence. All University communications will be sent to this address, so it is important to check it regularly.

How to access your UT Official Student Email

  1. Visit office365.austin.utexas.edu
  2. Select the Outlook Web App option (also referred to as OWA)
  3. Login with your EID and password and authenticate with Duo

If you need additional help, don't hesitate to reach out to the UT Service Desk at help@utexas.edu or (512) 475-9400. For more information, refer to the Using Your UT Official Student Email knowledge article.
