Graduate and professional student appreciation week

Dear Graduate Students:

With the start of the 2026 Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week, I am proud to recognize and celebrate the extraordinary contributions you make to The University of Texas at Austin.

From advancing research in health, energy and technology to deepening our understanding of history, culture and society, your work drives discovery and meaningful change. Your creative expression, research and community engagement expand knowledge, amplify a rich array of voices and perspectives and enrich the intellectual and cultural life of our university. You help us better understand the world and one another.

Many of you also serve as educators and mentors, playing a critical role in the University’s teaching mission. In classrooms, labs and studios, you guide undergraduate students, model intellectual rigor and foster a spirit of inquiry.

Pursuing an advanced degree requires perseverance, adaptability and sacrifice. I am deeply grateful for the energy, resilience and passion you bring to your work each day. We are honored to support you as you continue your academic and professional journeys.

The Graduate School has partnered with the Graduate Student Assembly for a series of events celebrating you. We invite you to participate in the events below. A complete list of events is also available on the Graduate School website.

The first event is a lunch for graduate students today, April 6 at 12:30 p.m. in the WCP Ballroom (room 2.412). I hope you will join us to grab a bite to eat and to connect with fellow graduate students.

Sincerely,

SARAH ADES, Ph.D.
Dean, The Graduate School
