Nutritional Sciences Ph.D. Student Wins Three Minute Thesis Competition

On Nov. 12, 2021, Nutritional Science Ph.D. student Vasavi Shabrish won first place in the final round of The Graduate School’s Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition at UT. Shabrish’s presentation “Strategies to Improve Health Outcomes in Shift Work” earned her a $1,000 prize and the opportunity to advance to the regional 3MT competition in February.

3MT is a competition that helps graduate students cultivate the skills to communicate academic and research concepts to general audiences. Participating students use approachable language and concepts to explain their research in three minutes or less to a panel of judges.

Change in Taxation Policy – Academic Blue

UT System has updated its guidance so that premium support may now be provided as a nontaxable benefit. This updated guidance is based, in part, on the current federal enforcement approach for certain provisions of the Affordable Care Act related to employer paid premiums. 

University Health Services for Graduate Students on Academic Blue

June 7, 2021

As many of you know, effective September 1, 2021, benefits-eligible graduate student employees with appointments of 20-29 hours per week will be auto-enrolled in Academic Blue (SHIP), which will be provided to them at no cost. Academic Blue (SHIP) is administered by BlueCross BlueShield, and as an added benefit it pays for 100% of all covered costs at University Health Services (UHS).
