Mental Health Resources for Graduate Students

Watch The Three Minute Thesis Competition Live

Nov. 9, 2021

You are invited to watch The University of Texas at Austin's Three Minute Thesis (3MT) on Friday, Nov. 12, 2021 at 10 a.m.

3MT is a competition that helps graduate students cultivate the skills to communicate academic and research concepts to general audiences. Participating students use approachable language and concepts to explain their research in three minutes or less to a panel of judges.

2022 Graduate Education Awards Announcement

The nomination process begins soon for the Graduate School’s 2022 Awards for Excellence in Graduate Education, which recognize professional and graduate student achievement at the university.

2021-22 Salary Increases for Graduate Student Academic Employees

We are pleased to announce that during the 2021-22 academic year, the university is providing $10.9 million dollars in additional recurring funds to support graduate students.

Health Care Assistance Fund for Academic Graduate Student Employees

Applications are now open for the Health Care Assistance Fund, designed to help benefits-eligible academic graduate student employees who encounter higher costs due to an insurance change by providing the difference in out-of-pocket costs for care between the two plans in the form of block grants to students.

Change in Taxation Policy – Academic Blue

UT System has updated its guidance so that premium support may now be provided as a nontaxable benefit. This updated guidance is based, in part, on the current federal enforcement approach for certain provisions of the Affordable Care Act related to employer paid premiums. 

Health Insurance and Graduate Education Task Force Updates

We wanted to provide additional information on health insurance changes for graduate student academic employees (TAs and AIs) and steps the Graduate School is taking to ensure salaries for these positions are raised in accordance with the Graduate Education Task Force recommendations. Starting in the fall 2021 and spring 2022 semesters, academic employees in many areas where salaries have been lower will see increases.

New Graduate Student Health Insurance for Academic Employees in Fall 2021
