NIH & NSF Grant Writing Workshops

Event Status
Scheduled

Getting federal grants is an increasingly important part of a successful academic career, but most departments do not include grant-writing in their curricula. This two-day workshop is designed to introduce graduate students and post-docs to the process of successful grant writing. Day 1 will cover funding mechanisms, the process from submission to award for both NIH and NSF, and the grant review process. Day 2 will cover writing specific aims and hypotheses, grant writing style, and other aspects of successful grant applications. Day 2 builds on Day 1, and so we recommend that participants attend both days.  The instructor, Dr. Elizabeth Gershoff, has been continuously funded by federal granting agencies (CDC, NIH, NSF) for 20 years and has mentored many graduate students, post-docs, and junior faculty in their successful grant applications.

This workshop is appropriate for graduate students and post-docs in departments such as African and African Diaspora Studies, Communication, Economics, Education, Human Development and Family Sciences, Mexican American and Latina/o Studies, Public Affairs, Psychology, Social Work, and Sociology.
